let the passing mark be x and full mark be y

x+12=42 of y

100x+1200=42y

100x+42y=1200;

x+30=45/100 of y

100x+3000=45y

100x+45y=3000

using subtraction we get

3y=3000-1200

3y=1800

y=600

The maximum mark is 600

Answer:

The maximum marks will be=600

Step-by-step explanation:

As we have given in the question that the student got 42% marks and secured 12 marks more than passing marks

Another student gets 45% marks and scored 30 marks more than passing marks

This question is not that much difficult it can be done in many ways but we are doing it by hit and trial method

Lets first from 200

42% of 200=84

45% of 200=90

No this is not our number as there is only a difference of 6

Now we will check for 500

42% of 500=210

45% of 500=225

This is somewhat close to our number as here is a difference of 15

Now let's try for 600

42% of 600=252

45% of 600=270

Here we get our number as here is the difference of 18

The passing marks are 240
