A student has to measure the length of his pencil. The zero mark on the scale is not clearly visible. How should he use the scale to get the correct length of the pencil​

If the 0 mark is not visible consider the mark on the scale which is visible (n) as the beginning. Measure using this mark (n) as your initial. Subtract n from the final mark to obtain the lenth of the pencil.

example:

initial mark (n) = 4cm

final mark = 18 cm

length of the pencil = Final mark - initial mark

= 18 - 4

= 14cm
