the question says that , 33% is the minimum percentage required to pass, but he fails by 40 marks when he got 125..... thus we can conclude that 33% = 165
So if 33/100 x Maximum Marks = 165
Maximum marks = 165 x100/33
so we get , maximum marks is equal to 500

JogiJAAT: Right answer is 530
JogiJAAT: 175 Mark =33%
JogiJAAT: Total marks=175×100÷33=530
AkashDewangan: brother 125 + 40 equals to 165 not 175
AkashDewangan: and moreover 17500 is not divisible by 33

Answer:

500

Step-by-step explanation:

He obtained marks = 125

He failed by marks = 40

Passing marks = 125+40 = 165

Let the maximum marks be x

We are given that a student has to obtain 33% of total marks to pass

So, 33\% x = 165

\frac{33}{100}x = 165

x = 165 \times \frac{100}{33}

x =500

Hence the maximum marks is 500
