Let, the maximum marks be x

Given that : A student has to secure 40% marks to pass. He gets 60 marks and fails by 20 marks.

So, passing marks will be : 60+20 = 80

According to the question :

x \times \frac{40}{100} = 80 \\ \\ = > x = \frac{80 \times 100}{40} \\ \\ = > x = 200

So, the maximum marks will be 200
