Given,

  • Marks obtained = 95
  • Total marks = 250
  • Passing percentage = 42%

To find,

  • We have to find by how many marks did he fail.

Solution,

We can simply find by how many marks did he fail by using the concepts of percentage.

Marks obtained = 95

Total marks = 250

Passing percentage = 42%

then, the minimum marks required for passing = 42/100 * 250

                                                                              = 105

Minimum marks required for passing = 105

Marks obtained by the student = 95

then, marks by which he fails = 105-95

                                                = 10

Hence, a student obtained 95 marks out of 250 in maths, if the passing % is 42% then by 10 marks he fails.
