I seriously think that school going kids should not be allowed to ride motorcycles or any vehicle with an engine. For starters, it is illegal. A bicycle is fine. It is a fault of silly and immature parents who give in to the demands of their kids who ask for . When I was in school, and it wasn't too long back (graduated from school in 2004), there was not a single student who would ride a two-wheeler to school. They didn't even have cellphones! Not even the rich and fancy ones! They usually had their drivers drop them off in cars.

Here, in Pune, wearing a helmet is not compulsory. For some strange reason, every time they try and introduce the helmet rule, it is strongly opposed. I have been riding a motorbike since I turned 18. I have almost always worn a helmet. I have suffered one very serious accident, but luckily I was wearing a helmet. I suffered bruises everywhere, and even a broken thumb, but because I was wearing a helmet, I didn't suffer any head or facial injuries. But, now I have slowed down, and I don't exceed 50 km/hr under normal riding and 60 km/hr maximum when riding on an open road with no traffic.

I think the city traffic cops need to toughen up and start catching people for riding without a driving licence, number plates, breaking signals, driving on the wrong side of the road, over-speeding, and many such offences.
