a student perform an activity to study a magnetic field lines of current around a current carrying straight conductor he reports that
1.) the direction of deflection of a compass needle kept at a given point near the conductor remains unaffected even the terminals of battery sending the current in the wires are interchanged.
2.) for a given battery, the degree of deflection of a North Pole decreases when the compass is kept at a point far away from the conductor.

here 1st one is wrong statement because after changing terminals direction of current would be changed as well which will affect the magnetic field lines and the compass needle.

hope it helped.
:-) :-)

2nd one is true... because distance b/w field lines and conductor decreases the strength of magnetic field and thus the degree if north pole also decreases.
