A student scored the following marks in 11 questions paper :

  • 7, 3, 4, 1, 5, 8, 2, 2, 5, 7, 6

Arrange the data in ascending order, we have

  • 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 5, 6, 7 7, 8

Here, number of observations,

  • n = 11 (odd).

So, median of the above data is given by

 \bigstar \:  \: { \boxed{ \red{ \tt \: median \:  =  \:  {(\dfrac{n + 1}{2} )}^{th}  \: observation}}}

So,

\rm :\implies\:median \:  =  \:  {(\dfrac{11 + 1}{2} )}^{th}  \: observation

\rm :\implies\:median \:  =  \:  {(\dfrac{12}{2} )}^{th}  \: observation

\rm :\implies\:median \:  =  \:  {(6 )}^{th}  \: observation

 \bigstar \:  \: {  \large\boxed{ \pink{ \tt \: median \:  =  \: 5}}}

Answer:

1,2,2,3,4,5,5,6,7,7,8. then there are total 11 numbers which is odd. so the median is the middle numbers which is =5
