Given :

A student spent 1/2 of his money on book

He spent 1/4 of his money on box

To find :

if he still had rs 50 how much money did have in total

Solution:

Let the total money be x

A student spent his money on book = \frac{x}{2}

He spent on box = \frac{x}{4}

He spent on total = \frac{x}{2}+\frac{x}{4}=\frac{2x+x}{4}=\frac{3x}{4}

He left with money = x-\frac{3x}{4}=\frac{4x-3x}{4}=\frac{x}{4}

We are given that he still had rs 50

So,\frac{x}{4}=50

x=200

Hence He has Rs.200 in total .
