A student took small amount of copper oxide in a beaker and added dilute hydrochloric acid slowly by stirring to it. What did he observe? Explain the observation and conclusion with the help of a balance chemical equation.

The child will observe that  CaO + HCl = CaCl^2 +H^2O was formed which is slaked lime and water


anurag544: wouldn't that be CuO instead of CaO so, that makes the whole answer incorrect

hey mate here is ur ans

the black color of copper oxide disappears
reason -as the formation of cupric chloride occurs
CuO+2HCl---->2CuCl2+2H2O
note
The activity series aplies only to the elemental form of the element, not the compound.
