A student working in the laboratory added some water to a syrupy liquid taken in tube. The tube immediately cracked and the liquid escaped out, that produced blisters on the skin of the student. Why?

This syrupy liquid must be concentrated sulphuric acid

 

Concentrate sulphuric acid has the following properties

a) it is colourless

b) it is adourless

c) it is syrupy liquid

d) it is soluble in water and the reaction is highly exothermic

e) Even in moderate concentration, it is very dangerous when it gets into contact with the skin and can produce blisters

Answer:

The syrupy must be a strong acid

When he add water to it, exothermic reaction is taken place.

As it exhothermic reaction, lot of heat is produced and the apparatus is broke.
