A. Study the following chemical reactions:
1. Iron reacts with copper sulphate (CuSO4) and forms iron (II) sulfate (FeSO4) and copper
2. Magnesium combines with oxygen gas (O2) to produce magnesium oxide
3. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) in the presence of magnesium dioxide (MnO2) produces water and hydrogen gas
4. Acetic acid (CH3COOH) and sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3) produce sodium acetate (C2H3NaO2) with the release of carbon dioxide gas and water
5. Copper sulphate (CuSO4) reacts with sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to produce insoluble copper (II) hydroxide (Cu(OH)2) and sodium sulphate (Na2SO4) solution

B. Fill the table below with the Reactants and the products from the chemical reactions above.

Answer:

1 Fe+ CuSO4 ---> FeSO4 + Cu

Reactant= iron and copper sulphate.

Product= iron sulfate and copper.

2 Mg + O2 ---> MgO

Reactant= magnesium and oxygen.

Product= magnesium oxide.

3 H2O2 + MnO2 ---> H2O + H

Reactant= hydrogen peroxide and magnesium dioxide.

Product= water and hydrogen.

4 CH3COOH +NAHCO3 ---> C2H3NaO2 + CO2 + H2O

Reactant=acetic acid and sodium bicarbonate.

Product= sodium acetate, carbon dioxide and water.

5 CuSO4 + NaOH ---> Cu(OH)2 + Na2SO4

Reactant= copper sulphate and sodium hydroxide.

Product= copper hydroxide and sodium sulphate.

Answer:

1) Reaction: Fe + CuSO4(aq) → FeSO4(aq) + Cu(s)

Reactants: Iron and copper sulphate are the reactants.

Products: Iron sulphate and copper are the ingredients in this product.

2) Reaction: 2 Mg + O2 → MgO

Reactants: Magnesium and oxygen are the reactants.

Products: Magnesium oxide is the product.

3)Reaction: H2O2 + MnO2 → MnO + O2 + H2O

Reactants: Hydrogen peroxide and magnesium dioxide are the reactants.

Products: Water and hydrogen are the end products.

4) Reaction: CH3COOH + NaHCO3 → CH3COONa + H2O + CO2

Reactants: Acetic acid and sodium bicarbonate are the reactants in the above given equation.

Products: Sodium acetate, carbon dioxide, and water are the end products.

5) Reaction: CuSO4 + NaOH⟶ Cu(OH)2 + Na2SO4

Reactants: Copper sulphate and sodium hydroxide are the reactants.

Products: Copper hydroxide and sodium sulphate are the products.

Explanation:

1) It is a displacement reaction and in this reaction, Fe replaced Cu from its sulphate form.

2) It is an exothermic reaction, production of MgO produces heat. And it is also a combination reaction where both the reactants combines to form one product.

3) It is a decomposition reaction.

4) It is a neutralization reaction in which an acid and a base reacts to form salt as a product.

5) It is a double displacement reaction.
