If the substance X is used as the antacid and it reacts with the hydrochloric acid, it will produce the gas Y.

This kind of gas is used in the extinguishing fire.

Then the name of substances X and Y are baking soda or sodium hydrogen carbonate and CO2 respectively.

The balanced equation of this reaction between X and hydrochloric acid is

NaHCO3+ HCI = NaCl + H20 + CO2.

a) X → Sodium hydrogen carbonate or baking soda.

y → CO2

(b) NaHCO3 + HCI → NaCI + H2O + CO2↑
