A substance X, which is an oxide of Group 2 element, is used extensively in cement industry. The element is present in bones also. When mixed with water in beaker, it forms a compound Y, that turns red litmus blue, and the beaker becomes extremely hot. Moreover, on passing CO2 gas through Y, we get Z which is important ingredient in marble.
(a) Identify X, Y and Z.
(b) Write the balanced equations for the above reaction.

a)X is Calcium oxide

Y is Calcium hydroxide also known as dry slaked lime

Z is Calcium carbonate

b) CaO+H2O=Ca(OH)2+ heater energy

Ca(OH)2+CO2= CaCO3+H2O

c) it is combination reaction since calcium oxide and h2o combines to form calcium hydroxide. It is also an exothermic reaction since a heat is liberated alone with ca(oh)2.
