see the diagram.

We do not want to cut a lot of pieces of the cloth and then stitch them together.  One suitcase has stitches only at the opening of the suitcase on 3 sides.

We place a suitcase on the cloth as shown in the figure.

We need 208 cm length of the cloth  which is 96 cm wide to make cover for one suitcase.

Then  :  for 100 suitcases, we need : 208 meters of the given cloth.

kvnmurty: This above method is correct... This way the cover for the suitcase will not have any stitches on it except at the places where zip appears.. ie., where the suitcase opens...
kvnmurty: This method requires more cloth than 144 m .. in case of 144 m , there will be stitches all over the suitcase cover... the covers will appear horrible.

measurement of suitcase = length = 80 cm
                                            breadth= 48 cm
                                            height= 24 cm
A suitcase with measure 80 cm*48 cm*24 cm is to b be covered with a tarpaulin cloth .
so we need to find the T.S.A of cuboid.
T.S.A of cuboid = 2(lb+bh+hl)
                         = 2(80 x 48 + 48 x 24 + 80 x 24)
                         = 2(3,840 + 1,152 + 1,920)
                         = 2(6912)
                         = 13,824
T.S.A of 100 cuboids = 13824 x 100 = 1382400
T.S.A of cuboid = 13,824 = l x b = area of rectangle
                            13824 = l x 96
                            13824/96 = l
                            14400 cm = l
So , when we convert it into meters, the answer is 144 m.
So, 144 m of tarpaulin of width 96 cm is required to cover 100 such suitcases.

Gokul9355: you are absolutely write
pipi: IT IS RIGHT*
pipi: NOT WRITE
kvnmurty: this method of 13824/96 = 144 meters calculation requires TEARING of the cloth into many cut-pieces and then stitching them a lot... so the suitcase covers will appear with stitches all over them.
