A sum of 3,240 was fixed to complete a work. 54 workers completed the work in 8 days and the sum was divided equally among the work- ers. If the work was to be completed in 3 days then how much less money each worker would receive compared to when the work was com- pleted in 8 days (sum is divided equally among the workers?

Given,

Sum = 3240

Initial Amount of Workers = 54

Initial Number of Days = 8 days

If number of days = 3 days, then we will have to find how many more workers will join the camp such that the total amount received by each worker gets reduced.

It is an inverse ratio proportion problem. Calculating the number of workers we get:

⇒ Initial Workers × Initial Days = Final Workers × Final Days

⇒ 54 × 8 = y × 3

⇒ y = (54 × 8)/3

⇒ y = 432/3 = 144

Therefore the total number of workers would be 144 if the work had to be completed in 3 days.

Initial Amount received by each worker is:

⇒ Initial Amount = Total Amount / Number of Workers

⇒ Initial Amount = 3240 / 54

⇒ Initial Amount = Rs. 60 per worker

Now, the new number of workers is 144. Hence the amount received by each worker would become:

⇒ Amount = 3240 / 144

⇒ Amount = Rs. 22.5 per person

Difference in Amount = Initial Amount - Final Amount

Difference in Amount = Rs. 60 - Rs. 22.5 = Rs. 37.5

Hence the workers would get a salary which is Rs. 37.5 less than their original salary if the work is to completed in 3 days.
