Let the money distributed between A and B be x.

Given that A got 60% of the money = 60% of x.

Given that B got 40% of the money = 40% of x.

Therefore,

60% of x - 40% of x = 1170

60/100 * x - 40/100 * x = 1170

20/100 * x = 1170

20x = 1170 * 100

20x = 117000

x = 117000/20

x = 5850.

Therefore the money distributed between a and b = 5850.

Hope this helps!
