The amount received by A is 4800 so the correct option is (c).

A sum of Rs. 21,000 is divided among A, B and C , shares of A and B are in the ratio of 2 : 3 and B and C's share are in the ratio of 4 : 5.

We have to find the amount received by A.

This question is based on the concept of ratio and proportion.

Here, A : B = 2 : 3 ....(1)

And B : C = 4 : 5 ....(2)

You see, B are available in both ratios and it is different so we need to make it same.

Let's multiply equation (1) with 4 and equations (2) with 3 , we get,

A : B = 8 : 12

And B : C = 12 : 15

Now you see, the value of B is same for both ratios, isn't it ?

Hence we can say, A : B : C = 8 : 12 : 15

Let proportionality constant is x.

∴ Share of A = 8x

Share of B = 12x

Share of C = 15x

sum of shares of A , B and C = 21, 000

∴ A + B + C = 8x + 12x + 15x = 21000

⇒35x = 21000

⇒x = 600

so, share of A = 8x = 8 × 600 = 4800

Therefore the amount received by A is 4800.
