A sum of rupees rs 500 is in the form of notes of denominations of rs 5 and rs 10.

let the number of 5 notes be x and 10 nots be y

5x + 10y = 500

5x = 500 - 10y

now,

 total number of notes is 90

x +y = 90

x = 90 -y

now ,

since 


5x + 10y = 500 and x = 90 - y


5x + 10y = 500

5(90 -y) + 10y = 500

450 -5y +10y  500

450 + 5y = 500

5y = 50

y = 10

sine x = 90 - y

x = 90 - 10

x = 80

so number of 5 rs notes is 80

and 10rs is 10 notes
