The Revolt of 1857 is also know as the sepoy mutiny. This revolt was started because of the myth that the new musket cartiage had oil of beef and pig in it. Then a speoy named Bhagat Singh shot his officer in Barrakpore, he was then tried for mutiny and executed by hannging till death. This lead to a series of mutiny of sepoys, they choose the Mughal Emperor Bhadur Shah Zafar as their emperor. They stormed the red fort ane held it for weeks. Queen like Rani Laxi bai and other maratha and hindu faction also fought for freedom.
