a system is shown in the figure a man standing on the block is pulling the Rope velocity of the point of string in contact with the hand of the man is 2 metre per second downward the velocity of the block will be assume that block does not rotate?
Answer is 1/2 m/s how??

Answer:

As the total length of the string is a constant

Let length of string pulled by man is x1

decrease in length of the rope is=x1

Now the distance between the  pulleys remains constant so the only way the decrease in length is compenseted is that the block should rise upward a distance x2.

But x1=x2

As length remains constant

Differentiating both sides with respect to time

dx1/dt=dx2/dt

v1=v2

2=v2

so block rise with same velocity in the upward direction.
