A system releases 125 kJ of heat while 104 kJ of work is done on the system.

Calculate the change in internal energy.​

ΔU= change in internal energy of a system

Q - Net Heat Added to System

Q = +ve if net heat transfer to

system

Q = - ve if net heat transfer out of system

W is Net work done by the system

W = + ve if done by system

W is - ve if done on system ,

ΔU= Q - W

A system releases 125 kJ of heat

Means out of systemQ = - 125 KJ

work is done on the system hence - ve

=> W = -104 KJ

ΔU= - 125 - (-104)=> ΔU= - 21 KJ

change in internal energy of system = Decrease of 21 KJ
