The condition explained is a dihybrid cross which involves two characters in a single plant. This is also called as dihybrid inheritance.  The cross is done between Peaplant which is Tall with Violet flowers (TTWw) and pea plant which is short with white plants (ttww). F1 generation offspring exhibit all pea plants with tall and violet flowers. When F1offspring were self bred they give rise to 9:3:3:1 ratio of plants.

Dihybrid inheritance is the experimentation of two characteristics with their four contrasting traits.

For instance, dihybrid inheritance involves a  pea plant producing tall and violet flowers (TT and WW) crossing with a plant producing short and white flowers (aa and ww).

F1 progeny produces axial and violet flowers  (T and t, W and w ) in which  axial and violet are dominant traits.

F2 progeny were similar to their parents and produced Tall and violet flowers, while some of them produced short and white flowers. However, some plants of the F2 progeny even showed new combinations, like tall white flowers and short violet flowers.

Dominant traits                     - Tall, Violet

Recessive traits                     - Short, White

Phenotype of the offspring   -  9 Tall violet   :    3 Short violet   :   3 Tall white   :   1 short white

Genotype of the offspring    -        9 TTWW    :   3 ttWW                 :    3 TTww         :    1 ttww
