A tank is 1/3rd filled with water . It is connected with 2 pipes A and B . Pipe A can fill tank in 12 mins and pipe B can empty it in 6 mins. If A and B are opened at the same time,how much time will be required to empty the tank ?​

therefore, total amount of water ( lcm of 12 and 6) = 12 units

Efficiency of pipe A = (12/12) = 1 (+ve)

Efficiency of pipe B = (12/6) = 2 (-ve)

together they can fill = ( 1-2) = -1 (i.e it will empty the tank)

tank filled with water = 1/3 × 12 = 4 units

they will empty the tank in 4/1 = 4 mins
