A taut string passes over a light smooth pulley at the edge of a smooth table. It has mass 4kg attached to one end and hanging freely.,and a mass 2kg attached to the end which lies on the table. Find the tension in the string and the acceleration of the either mass

Net force acting m₁g=4g=40N in down direction.

Total mass= m₁+m₂=4+2=6kg

Tension=m₁g=40N

acceleration= T/m₂+m₁= 40/(4+2)= 40/6= 20/3 m/s²
