A teacher asked three students to stand to form a triangle at the points P(-1,3), Q(1,-1) andR(5,1). Suddenly a fourth boy came and shows his interest in participating the activity. She asked him to stand at points midway between Q and R. What is his distance from P.

Let P(-1,3) , Q(1,-1) and R(5,1)

The fourth boy is standing in a point mid way between Q and R.

By midpoint formula,

(x1+x2)/2+(y1+y2)/2

Let the fourth boy stand at a point S

Therefore, coordinates of S=({1+5}/2+{-1+1}/2)=(6/2,3/2)=(3,0)

By distance formula,PS=[√3-(-1)]²+(0-3)²

                                      =(3+1)²+(-3)²=√16+9=√25

                                      =5 cm

Therefore distance of fourth boy from P is 5 cm!!

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

P(-1,3) , q(1,-1) & p(5,1).

By mid point formula

(X1 + x2)/2 + y1 + y2/2

S= x1+x2/2 + y1+y2/2

S= 1+5/2 + -1+1/2

S= 6/2 ,3/2

S=(3,0)

By distance formula

PS = (√3-(-1) whole square + (0,3) whole square

PS=(3+1)whole square + -3 square

PS=√16+9

PS=√25
