Given:  A teacher found the average of 83 numbers to be m. Then, by accident, she included the value m with the original numbers, and found the average of the resulting 84 numbers to be n

To find : the ration of n to m.

Solution:

average of 83 numbers to be m

Sum of 83 numbers  =  Average * numbers

= m * 83

= 83m

by accident, she included the value m with the original numbers,

=> Total Become = 83m + m = 84m

Numbers becomes = 83 + 1 = 84

new Average  = New Total / 84

= 84m/84

= m

new average = n

=> n = m

=> n/m = 1

=> n : m = 1 : 1

Ratio of n to m.  =  1
