Answer:

The cost of tennis racket = $21.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Given,

The cost  of a tennis racket cost $12 more than a hockey stick

The price of tennis racket and hockey stick together = $31

To find,

The cost of tennis racket

Solution:

Let 'x' be the cost of tennis racket.

Since the cost of a tennis racket is $12 more than a hockey stick, we have

x = 12+cost of a hockey stick

Cost of a hockey stick = x -12

Since the price of tennis racket and hockey stick together is  $31, we have

x+x-12 = 31

2x -12 = 31

2x = 31+12 =43

x = \frac{43}{2} =21.5

∴ The cost of tennis racket = $21.5
