A tent is in the shape of a right circular cylinder upto a height of 3m and conical above it.The total height of the tent is 13.5 m and radius of base is 14 m. Find The cost of cloth required to make the tent at the rate of ₹ 80 per sq. m.

SOLUTION:
Given:

Radius of a cylinder(r) = 14m
Height of a cylinder (h) = 3 m
Height of the cone (h1)= 13.5 - 3 = 10.5 m
Radius of a cone(r1) = 14m

Curved surface area of cylinder = 2πrh
CSA of Cylinder = 2 × (22/7) × 14 × 3
= 2×22×2×3= 44 × 6 = 264 m²

Slant height of cone(l) = √r1² + h1²
l = √ 14² + 10.5² = √196 + 110.25 = √306.25
Slant height of cone (l) = 17.5 m

Curved surface area of cone = πr1× l
CSA of cone = 22/7 × 14 × 17.5
= 22 × 2 × 10.5 = 44 × 10.5 = 770 m²

Curved surface area of cone = 770 m²

Total area to make tent = curved surface area of the cylinder +  curved surface area of the cone
Total area to make tent= 264 + 770 = 1034 m²

Rate of making the tent= ₹ 80 per m²

Cost of cloth Required to make the tent = 1034 × 80 = ₹ 82720.
Hence, the Cost of cloth required to make tent  = ₹ 82720.

total height of the tent given is 13.5m.

the height of the cylindrical part of tent is 3m. therefore height of the conical part = 13.5 - 3
= 10.5m

given radius of the base is 14m.

ATQ,

we have to find the cost of cloth required to make the tent. so first we have to find how much cloth is required.

so, we will use CSA formula.

CSA of the cylindrical part = 2πrh

= 2 × 22/7 × 14 × 3

= 44 × 2 × 3

= 264m²

length of the conical part = √( h² + r² )

= √( 10.5² + 14² )

= √( 110.25 + 196 )

= √306.25

= 17.5m

hence, the Length of the conical part is 17.5m

CSA of the conical part = πrl

= 22/7 × 14 × 17.5

= 22 × 2 × 17.5

= 770m²

total cloth required to make the tent = 264 + 770

= 1034m²

therefore, total cost of cloth required at the rate of ₹80 per m² = 1034 × 80

= ₹82,720
