A tooth paste distributor made 3500 pieces of Colgate at a cost of $ 350000. He gave 500
pieces free for demo to some dentist. He also allowed a 25% discount on the market price of
the piece and gave one extra piece free with every 29 pieces bought at a time. In this manne
he was able to sell all the 3500 tooth paste pieces that were produced. If the market price of
a piece was $ 150, then what is his gain or loss percent for total number of tooth paste
pieces?

Given:

A tooth paste distributor made 3500 pieces of Colgate at a cost of $ 350000.

He gave 500 pieces free for demo to some dentist.

He also allowed a 25% discount on the market price of the piece and gave one extra piece free with every 29 pieces bought at a time.

In this manner he was able to sell all the 3500 tooth paste pieces that were produced.

To find:

If the market price of a piece was $ 150, then what is his gain or loss percent for total number of tooth paste pieces?

Solution:

From given, we have,

CP of 3500  tooth paste = $ 350000

The SP of one  toothpaste after discount is $ 112.50

SP of each set of 30  toothpaste (29 + 1) = 29 × 112.50 = $ 3262.50

SP of 3500 toothpaste including 500 free toothpaste = $ 3262.50

Therefore, the overall loss of $ 350000 is $ 23750

Therefore, the loss per cent = 23750/350000 × 100 = 6.8%

Therefore, the loss per cent for the total number of toothpaste pieces is 6.8%
