4/5 fraction of the total price is the torch.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the cost of a torch be £“T” and the cost of a battery be £“B”.

It is given that, the total cost of a torch and a battery = £2.50, therefore,

Equation 1: T + B = 2.50

Also given that, the cost of the torch is £1.50 more than that of the battery, therefore,

Equation 2: T = 1.50 + BT – B = 1.50

Now, adding eq. (1) & (2), we get

T + B = 2.50

T – B = 1.50

-------------------

   2T = 4

-------------------

T = £2cost of a torch

Therefore,

The fraction of the cost of the torch to the total price of both torch & battery is given by,

= \frac{2}{2.50}

= \frac{4}{5}

Thus, \frac{4}{5} of the total price is the cost of the torch.
