Answer:

Let the give prizes of rs 500 to x person

and rs 100 prizes to (200-x) person

the number of each prizes =

80000=500 X x +(200-x)100

80000= 500x+ 20000 - 100x

80000-20000=500x-100x

60000=400x

60000÷400=x

150=x

So, Rs 500 was given to 150person and Rs 100 was given to 50 person.

Answer:

Let us say we have given prizes of Rs 500 to N persons and Rs 100 prizes to (200-N) persons. The total amount is,

Rs 80,000 = Rs 500 N + (200 - N) Rs 100

800 = 5 N + 200 - N = 4 N + 200

4 N = 600

N = 150

So the prizes of Rs 500 are given to 150 persons and the prizes of Rs 100 are given to 50 persons.

Thank you for your answer, but I didn't understand the second step of cutting the zeroes. So , can you kindly elaborate ?

80000 = 500 N + (200-N)100 => 800 * 100 = 5N * 100 + (200-N) 100 => divide by 100, we get 800 = 5N * 100/100 + (200-N)*100/100. It is same as striking of 100 from all terms or dividing by 100.
