A total of Rs. 80000 is to be distributed among 200 persons as prizes. The prize is either Rs. 100 or Rs. 500. Find the number of both the prizes

Let no. of prizes costing 100 = x
Let no. of prizes costing 500 = y
Total prizes = (200 = x + y) ----------1
Total cost of prizes = 80000
Hence,
80000 = 100x + 500y ----------2

From 1
x = 200 - y
Put this in 2
80000 = 100(200-y) + 500y
80000 = 20000 - 100y + 500y
60000 = 400y
150 = y

Hence,
x = 50 and y = 150
