Find the cost price of 5 kg of mixture:

Cost of 2 kg of butter @Rs 500 per kg = 2 x 500 = Rs 1000

Cost of 3 kg of butter @ Rs420 per kg = 3 x 420 = Rs 1260

Total cost = 1000 + 1260 = Rs 2260

Find the cost price of the 250g of the mixture:

5 kg = Rs 2260

5000 g = 2260

1 g= 2260 ÷ 5000 = Rs 0.452

250g = 0.452 x 250 = Rs 113

Find the profit percentage:

Profit = 150 - 113 = Rs 37

Profit percentage = 37/113 x 100 = 32.74%

The mixture is sold at a profit of 32.74%

TooFree: The book's answer must have made a mistake. Because it too profit to divide by selling price instead of cost price. 37/150 x 100 = 24.66% but this is not correct, because it should be 36/113 x 100 = 32.74%

Cost of 2 kg of butter [ Rs. 500 per kg ] = \bold{2 \times 500 = 1000}

Cost of 3 kg of butter [ Rs. 420 per kg ] = \bold{3 \times 420 = 1260}

Total cost = \bold{1000 + 1260 = Rs. 2260}

.

Now, the price of 250g of the mixture

= > \bold{5 kg = Rs. 2260}

= > \bold{5000 g = 2260}

= > \bold{1g = 2260 ÷ 5000 = Rs. 0.452}

= > \bold{250g = 0.452 × 250 = Rs. 113}

.

Profit = \bold{150 - 113 = Rs. 37}

Profit % = \bold{\frac{37}{113} \times 100 = 32.74}%

\bold{Ans:} \huge{\bold{\red{32.74}}}%
