A train covered a certain distance in given interval of time at a uniform speed if the train could have been at a uniform speed if the train could have been 10 km per hr faster it would taken two hours less than the schedule time and if the train was slower by 10km per hour it would take 3 hrs more than the schedule time.Find the distance covered by the train

A train covered a certain distance at a uniform speed. if the speed of the train had been 6 km/hr faster, it would have taken 4 hour less time than the scheduled time and if the speed of the train were slower by 6 km/hr, the train would have taken 6 hr more than the scheduled time. the length of the journey was:

Let the speed of the train by x km/hr

And the time taken by the train be ‘y’ hrs

Distance traveled by the train is x.y = xy

Case I

If the train would have been 6 km/hr faster, it would have taken 4 hours less than the scheduled time.

⇒ (x + 6) (y - 4) = xy

⇒ -4x + 6y = 24

⇒ 2x – 3y = -12 ---------------- (1)

Case II

If the train were slower by 6 km/hr, it would have taken 6 hours more than the scheduled time

⇒ (x - 6) (y + 6) = xy

⇒ 6x – 6y = 36

⇒ x – y = 12 ----------------(2)

Solve it simultaneously and get the values of x and y.

Hope u understand it.!!
