A train is travelling at a speed of 90km per hour . Brakes are applied so as to produce a uniform acceleration of -0.5 m s . Find how far the train will go before it is brought to rest?​

The speed of the train = 90 km/hr

convert the speed into m/s by multiplying it with 5/18

=> speed = 90 × 5/18

=> Speed of the train before application of brakes = 25 m/s

Given that the retardation( -ve acceleration) of the train = -0.5 m/s

here -ve symbol indicates acceleration in opposite direction.

Now, From

v² - u² = 2as

=> 0 - (25)² = 2(-0.5)s

=> -625/-0.5 = 2s

=> 1250 = 2s

=> s = 625 m
