Let us consider the total number of passengers = x

Number of passengers at the first station , after drops one-third of the passenger

=( x - $\frac{1}{3}$ x) + 96

= $\frac{2x}{3}$ + 96

Number of passengers at the second station , after one-half get down and 12 added

=$\frac{1}{2}$ ($\frac{2x}{3}$ + 96 )

=$\frac{x}{3}$ + 48 +12

=$\frac{x}{3}$ + 60

According to the question :-

$\frac{x}{3}$ + 60 = 248

$\frac{x}{3}$ = 248 - 60= 188

∴ x= 188×3=564

Ans :- The train started from Delhi at 6.00 A.M, and 564 passengers were travelling.
