Let us consider the total number of passengers = x

Number of passengers at the first station , after drops one-third of the passenger

=( x - \frac{1}{3} x) + 96

= \frac{2x}{3} + 96

Number of passengers at the second station , after one-half get down and 12 added

=\frac{1}{2} (\frac{2x}{3} + 96 )

=\frac{x}{3} + 48 +12

=\frac{x}{3} + 60

According to the question :-

\frac{x}{3} + 60 = 248

\frac{x}{3} = 248 - 60= 188

∴ x= 188×3=564

Ans :- The train started from Delhi at 6.00 A.M, and 564 passengers were travelling.
