Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

hope it helps ya ....

let the speed of train be x km/hr . it is givent that distance is 288 km

so time taken= 288/x

new speed= x+4 km/hr

time taken with new speed= 288/(x+4)

according to the given condition,

288/x-288/(x+4)=1

taking 288 as common

288(1/x-1/x+4)=1

1/x-1/(x+4)=1/288

taking the LCM.

x-(x+4)/x(x+4)=1/288

4/x2+4x=1/288

cross multiplying

288*4=x2+4x

1152=x2+4x

x2+4x-1152=0

by spiltting the middle term method,

x2+36x-32x-1152=0

x(x+36)-32(x+36)=0

(x+36)(x-32)=0

x+36=0

x-32=0

x=-36 or x=32

since speed can't be negative.

hence the original speed of the train is 32 km/hr.
