A train travels a certain distance by taking 3
stops of 20 min each. Considering the
period of stoppage, the overall speed of the
train comes to 40 km/h. While without
consideration of stoppage, it is 45 km/h.
How much distance must the train have
travelled?

Answer:

Due to stoppages the train travels (45−36)=9 km less in 1 hour and the time taken to travel 9 km is the time taken at the stoppages.

∴ Time taken to cover 9 km at 45 km/hr =

45

9

×60=12min
