A train travels a distance of 480 km at uniform speed if the speed had been 8 km per hour less than it would have taken 3 hours more to cover the same distance find the usual speed of the train

here is your answer

let the velocity of train be V

time taken to cover the distance=t

given if velocity (V') isby( V-8) then time taken is( t')=t+3

distance=V×t

d=V×t........1

d=V'×t'. so from two equations

V'×t'=V×t

(V-8)(t+3)=480

by solving equation we get

3V-8t=24

from equation 1

3V-8×(480/V)=24

we get V^2-8V-1280=0

by solving the equation we get

V=40km/hour (roots are 40&-33 but velocity cant be negative so answer is 40)

t=480/40

t=12hours

if V'=32km/hr

t'=480/32

t'=15km/hr

hope the answer is helpful.
