1) Let distance between A to B beX and time taken to go from A to B be T1 and B to A be T2.
Speed from A to B = 40 km/h
Time taken to go from A to B = X/40 [As time = distance /speed.]
Time taken to go fromB to A= X/30 [As time = distance /speed.]
Total Distance from A to B and B to A = 2X
Total Timefrom A to B and B to A = 7X/12
Avg. Speed = Total Distance / Total Time= 2X*12 / 7X = 24/7 km/hr.
2) Displacement = 0 [Start from A and back to A]
Avg. Velocity = Total displacement / Total Time = 0
