A train travels with a speed of 60 km h-1 from station A to station B and then comes back with a speed 80 km h-1 from station B to station A. i) The average speed and ii) the average velocity of the train

Let distance from A to B=x km= distance from B to A.

Time taken by train from A to B = 60x hr

Time taken by train from B to A = 80x hr

Total time taken by train = 60x 80

x = 2407x hr

average speed=

total time

total distance

=

240

7x

2x = 7

480 km h −1
