A tree is broken at a height of 3m from the ground and its top touches the ground at a distance of 4 metre from the base of the tree find the original height of the tree

Answer:

we can take this in the form of a triangle with

base AB = 4m

height of tree left standing BC = 3m

height of broken tree = AC

applying Pythagoras theorem,

(AC)∧2 = (AB)∧2 + (BC)∧2

(AC)∧2 = 4∧2 + 3∧2 = 16 + 9

AC =  √25

AC = 5m

height of tree that is broken = 5m

height of tree left standing = 3m

so total height = 5 + 3 = 8m

original height of tree = 8m
