The dip in the middle of the span is 0.04 m.

Explanation:

Given the weight per unit length, w = 1.2 kg/m.

The length of the wire, L = 20 m.

The horizontal tension, T = 1500 kg

Let the dip in the middle of the span is S.

The horizontal force (TENSION) is given as

T=\frac{wL^2}{8S}

Substitute the given values, we get

1500kg=\frac{1.2kg/m(20m)^2}{8\times S}

S=\frac{480kg.m}{8\times1500kg}

S = 0.04 m.

Thus,  the dip in the middle of the span is 0.04 m.
