A truck starts from rest and moves with a constant acceleration.
During the 5th second of its motion, it covers a distance of 36
meters. What is the acceleration of the truck?
A. 8 m/s^2
B.12m/s^2

Answer:

You must mean to say the truck covers 36 meters (not kilometers) in the 5th second. 36 kilometers is impossible on Earth for a truck in one second. Even 36 meters (in 5th second) is beyond any truck’s actual Earthbound capability, but I will use it, and the answer will be an unreasonable number.

In the below equations

s is distance.

a is acceleration.

t is time.

In 4 seconds, the truck covers

s = 1/2 at^2

s = 1/2 (a) 4^2

s = 1/2 (a) (16)

s = 8 (a) meters

In 5 seconds, the truck covers

s = 1/2 a t^2

s = 1/2 (a) 5^2

s = 1/2 (a) 25

s = 12.5 (a) meters

The distance covered in 5 seconds minus the distance covered in 4 seconds is the distance (36 meters) covered in the 5th second.

36 = 12.5 a - 8 a

36 meters = 4.5 seconds^2 (a) acceleration of truck = 8m/s^2

a = acceleration = 8 m/s^2
