A uniform meter scale is balanced at the 20cm mark when masses of 100 g and 50g are suspended from the 10cm and 30 CM marks respectively. Calculate the mass of the scale.

Let's denote the weight of the scale by 2.

The scale is 20cm and 100g is suspended on one end (0 mark) when balanced.

So the weight of longer arm i.e. BC is balanced by 100g

So CW moment = A.C.W moment  

W × 30 = 20 × 100

= 2000 / 30

= 66.66g

A weight of 100g should be suspended at zero mark.
