A used-car costs $5,000. You figure you can get 4 years out of it. You drive 10,000 miles per year. Your car insurance costs $1,200 per year. You figure you'll spend $400 per year on maintenance. Gas costs $4 per gallon, and the car gets 25 miles per gallon. What will your average cost (all costs included) per mile be over the 4 years?

The cost of the car=$5000
insurance costs =$1200
number of years =4years
maintenance costs =$ 400
miles traveled per yea10000
cost of gas per every 25 miles traveled=$4

Therefore the total costs for the 4 years is as follows

a} cost of the car =$ 5000

b} cost of insurance per year = $1200
     for for years =4×1200=$4800

c} maintenance cost per year =$ 400
         for 4 years = 4×400
                           =$ 1600

d cost of the gas

first calculate total miles = 4 ×10000
                                       =40000 miles
but we are told the gas costs $4 for every 25 miles

therefore 40000 miles = {40000÷25}×$4
                                    =1600×$4
                                    =$6400
total costs ={ cost of the car=a+total cost of insurance for the four years=b+total costs of maintenance =c+ total costs of gas =d}

Thats : a+b+c+d

                 =$5000+$4800+  $1600+$6400
                 = $17800

Note: this is the total costs for the 4 years

the question asks the average costs{ all costs included} per mile over the four years

Therefore the total cost =$17800
Total miles in traveled in the four years =4×10000
                                                              =40000 miles

Average costs per mile =Total costs÷Total miles traveled

                                     =$17800÷40000 miles

                                     =$ 0.445 per mile
