A velocity – time graph is shown in the adjoining figure. Determine: (i)initial speed of the car (ii) maximum speed attained by the car (iii) part of the graph showing zero acceleration (iv) part of the graph showing constant retardation (v) distance travelled by the car in first 6 sec.

I) Initial speed of car= 0m/s.

II) Maximum speed attained by car=

20m/s( point O to A)

III) part of graph showing 0 acceleration is= from A to B

iv) part of graph showing constant retardation is=

point B to C

v) distance traveled by car in first 6 sec=

area of AOE + area of rectangle ABED

= 1/2*20*(3-0) + (6-3) *(20-0) m

= 10*3 + 3*20 m

= 30 + 60 m

= 90m.
