A vendor bought a basket of 30 dozen bananas for Rs. 270. Out of those, 6 dozen bananas had rotten. He sold the remaining bananas at 1.25 Rs. each. What was his profit or loss%?
1 dozen = 12 articles.
So, total number of bananas bought
= 30 dozens
= 30 × 12
= 360
And, cost price of the total bananas = Rs. 270
Now, 6 dozens were rotten.
So, total number of rotten bananas
= 6 × 12
= 72
Now, bananas remaining
= 360 - 72
= 288
Then, remaining bananas were sold for Rs. 1.25 each.
So, total selling price
= 288 × 1.25
= 360
Now, total cost price = 270 Rs.
And, total selling price = 360 Rs.
Clearly, S.P. > C.P.
So, gain is incurred
Gain
= S.P. - C.P.
= 360 - 270
= 90
Now, gain %
= gain/C.P. × 100
= 90/270 × 100
= 0.333 × 100
= 33.3% (rounded off)
