Given: The vendor is offering buy 3 get 2 free

To Find: Discount percentage

Solution:

Let the cost price of one article be a

Price of 5 articles will be 5a

According to the offer, we get 5 articles for the cost of 3

Cost of 3 articles will be 3a

Discount = Actual cost of items - Cost paid for the items

Discount = Cost of 5 articles - cost of 3 articles

               = 5a - 3a

               = 2a

Discount percentage = \frac{Discount }{Cost  of  5 articles} x 100

                                    = \frac{2a}{5a} x 100

                                    = \frac{200}{5}

                                    = 40 %

Therefore, 40% discount is offered by the vendor.
